Chapter 16: A Nepharite is Born

On Sunday Kurt learns that the Nefilim will take him in if he wants to; they see him as kin. He later decides that he will go to them and spends a couple of days with them before their shaman doctor finds out that his disfigurement in hellish in nature; as the Nefilim trace their origin back to the angels that means Kurt is of the enemy and they send him away. Back on the surface he is confronted by a demon which fits the template of his leg, and lacks one, using a large crooked bone as a walking aid instead. The demon teases Peter until he attacks - he easily kills the demon and finds that it is Herr Bern and not a demon at all. And he now remembers a nightmare he had two days ago which now becomes bvious as not having been a nightmare at all.

He now recalls having 'dreamt' that a creature looking like it was made of a barrage of small sticks was flowing into his room in the Nefilims' dungeon. It woke him up and asked him to accept the Torment Palimpsest - Kurt tried to escape but failed. The Creature pinned him down and his myriad twig-like needles carved the names of all the victims of the concentration camp where Herr Bern had been stationed into his bleeding skin. The creature was a Nepharite, punisher of sinners in hell, and he made Kurt into Herrn Bern's personal Nepharite.

The names reappear in blood on Kurt's body just after the murder of Herr Bern. A portal into hell opens and Kurt drags the body of Herr Bern into his own purgatory, there to be tormented until all memory of his life and existence are erased.

(Kurt's player was quite unhappy with the development of his character, so I put in this scene to give him a new chance - he will return as Kurt 2).
